LeasePlan Bank’s two main challenges were:

• Slow and inflexible vendors: slow development of new features and functionalities, difficult implementation of regulatory changes, long time-to-market of core upgrades.
• Operational issues: database issues, system crashed and long end-of-day processes (from 4 to 5 hours and the longest being 36 hours?!?)

Instead of replacing one part of its infrastructure, the bank built an entirely new, future-proof and cloud-based IT landscape on top of the Ohpen Platform to serve its customers in the Netherlands and Germany.

The overhaul was completed within 12 months and close to one million accounts, 17 million historical transactions, and approximately $9bn in savings deposits were migrated to the Ohpen Platform without any outages or a single customer complaint. 

Now, LeasePlan Bank releases twice per month instead of twice per year, scales up without worrying about availability or performance, and is able to innovate and focus on the customer while Ohpen takes care of the core, including all regulatory changes. To top it off, the overhaul won LeasePlan Bank the prestigious prize for ‘Best use of Cloud’ at the Banking Technology Awards.

As of March 24th 2021, LeasePlan Bank is able to process Instant Payments with the Ohpen platform.

Thanks to their modern IT-landscape LeasePlan Bank is now able to implement new features a lot faster. An example of this is being the first Dutch savings bank to implement Instant Payments for our customers. This is a big step forward, since there is now barely any processing time for transactions, even in the weekend.
